Winners for the Design Awards 2105 are announced at a luncheon at Broadway House, London held on December 4, 2015.

The winners and their guests joined the BVHA and Veterinary Practice at this special event in London to celebrate their achievements.

Thanks to Burtons, Rx Works,Veterinary Instrumentation and the BVHA for the prizes.

The winners of the Design Awards 2015 were announced at the well-attended Gala Luncheon held at Broadway House in London on Dec 4, 2015.  The Design Awards 2015 was run by the BVHA in conjunction with Veterinary Practice.

Martin Smith, President of the BVHA, praised the high standards of all of the entrants and said that it had been really difficult to select both the finalists and the subsequent winners. He thanked all who entered the competition and also the sponsors for their support.

And the Winners were…

1.    Conversion: Martin Veterinary Centre, Kirkintilloch

Lynn Martin, Director of Martin Veterinary Centre said, ‘I always had a strong desire to design a veterinary practice to my own specifications.’  She did just that by transforming a 2500 sq foot call centre on a small marina in Kirkintilloch, Glasgow into a fabulous first opinion, small animal clinic. The long, narrow and curved building with no drainage proved to be tricky to convert. However with input from the entire practice, Lynn and her husband Gillies succeed in producing a well-designed and functional practice with interesting aesthetic touches.

This practice scored very highly in all categories marked by the judges in particular for innovation, design flair, use of space, and value for money.

Martin Veterinary Centre was also declared the Overall Winner of the Design Awards 2015.

New Build: Hird & Partners, Halifax

This splendid new build practice has been built in an historic area of central Halifax and designed so that the exterior matches the location. This is a large, well laid out and well thought out practice with an extensive range of modern facilities. There are excellent hospitalisation and isolation wards on the practice.

Refurbishment: Maven Veterinary Care, North Cheam

Prior to its refurbishment, Maven Veterinary Care occupied 3 adjacent units on a slope on the main street through North Cheam. Their aim was to appear as though it was one large building. A large glass frontage was installed to allow both for a large colourful sign and high visibility from the road. Other features included a push button sliding entrance to the attractive central reception desk. There were also separate dog and cat waiting rooms with their own consulting rooms which was a nice touch.

The President’s Award: Vets 1 Group in Crimplesham, Norfolk

This award is given to a practice which has an outstanding feature from the point of view of design and. The President’s Award for 2015 went to Vets 1 Group for their most unusual waiting room.

The judges were impressed particularly by the thought and effort that went into the waiting and other public areas ensuring that they were welcoming and comfortable for both clients and their pets. The judges also noted that the flow lines for staff and patients had been well planned and efficient.  Also noted were clever ways of fitting computer screens and keyboard in consulting rooms to avoid veterinary staff having to turn their backs to clients.

The Design Awards 2015 culminated in the lovely prize giving luncheon in Broadway House in central luncheon. The event kicked off with drinks reception followed by a delicious three course lunch. As the event was held in December there was the added festive spirit with Christmas crackers and other seasonal table decorations. Of course the highlight of the event was the awarding of the prizes. The Overall Winner was announced for the first time at the event itself.

The prizes were donated by The BVHA, Rx Works, Burtons and Veterinary Instrumentation.
